Easter tour through the windmill

On Good Friday our windmill in Tündern opened its doors for a special Easter tour. In lovely spring weather, visitors from across the region came to discover the inner workings of the freshly restored mill.

A look inside

Step by step, the tour led through the different floors of the mill. On the ground floor, visitors were greeted by the mighty millstones, from sandstone to runner stone and bedstone, which once ground grain into flour. Alongside them stood the wooden grain hopper and flour mixing machine, silent witnesses to a bygone era.

The heart of the mill: the machinery

Higher up, the impressive gearing of the mill revealed itself. Massive cogwheels and crown wheels of wood and cast iron mesh together, a masterpiece of engineering from centuries past. Through the narrow windows, a unique view spread out over the rooftops of Tündern.

A wonderful Easter day

At the end of the tour, the illuminated “Windmühle” lettering glowed atmospherically on the upper floor. The Easter tour was a great success and showed once again how alive our mill has become after its restoration.
